Sydney Tattoo Expo
2011. part 1:The Painting
by Ash Gravino on Mar.19, 2011, under Tattoo Photos

backdrop by Ash and Megan Louise
The week leading up to the Sydney Tattoo Expo was hectic as usual…trying to get things organised during an already busy work schedule…shopping lists to make, supplies to get, drawings and stencils to finalise, not to mention working out how all of the stuff was going to fit in our cars for the 7 hour drive down south!
I shared a booth with the talented Megan Louise and we collaborated on a painting to hang in our booth. So to a soundtrack of Lou Reed on Vinyl and a couple of glasses of Red, we created our back drop using acrylic and posca on canvas. It was a large canvas so it had to be tied onto my roof racks. Wrapped in a “Dora the explorer” sleeping bag, and secured to the Holden with kayak tie downs, our artwork arrived in Sydney safely…
After the expo it was tied back on the car for the trip home. I was hoping to hang it on a wall at the Absolute Tattoo Studio in Woolgoolga, but it wasn’t meant to be… the loud flapping of the “Dora” sleeping bag on the roof of our car stopped suddenly, about 50 kilometres north of Sydney. The painting flew off our car at 100 km/h , hit the car behind us, and was never seen again… I said goodbye to the painting, at least i have the photos!

getting close to christmas…2010 has gone by so fast, has been a year full of good fun tattoo art! i am grateful to all the people who have chosen to come and see me for their skin art over the past year, and special thanks goes out to all those who have traveled long distances to get here!
I will be hopefully ready to post some new pics soon, i seem to be in the middle of a few cool tattoo projects at the moment, and am looking forward to finishing them soon. I am also looking forward to break after Christmas, including a quick trip to Melbourne!!!
